Étienne-Maurice Falconet, born in 1716 in Paris, France, was a pivotal figure in the Rococo movement, renowned for his small, delicate sculptures that reflected the elegance and grace of the 18th century French aristocracy. Falconet's journey into the arts began at a young age, despite his humble origins. Initially apprenticed to a carpenter, Falconet's talent for sculpture quickly became apparent, leading him to study under the notable sculptor Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne.

One of Falconet's most celebrated works is the monumental statue 'Peter the Great' in Saint Petersburg, Russia, commissioned by Empress Catherine the Great in 1766.
