Frederico Ayres was a Brazilian artist known for his role in the modern art movement in Brazil. Born on October 19, 1902, in Lisbon, Portugal, Ayres later moved to Brazil where he became an influential figure in the country's cultural scene.

His early work was influenced by European modernism, which he adapted to reflect the Brazilian landscape and culture. Throughout the 1930s and 1940s, his work evolved, showing a greater concern with form and color, which became hallmarks of his mature style.
