L o Hermann Paintings

L o Hermann is the pseudonym of Léopold Hermann, a Belgian comic book artist and writer born on July 11, 1943, in Bévercé, now a part of Malmedy. He is most famous for his post-apocalyptic comic series 'Jeremiah,' which he started in 1979. Hermann is known for his detailed and realistic art style and has been a significant figure in European comics since the 1960s.

Hermann initially worked in an architectural firm but soon shifted towards his passion for drawing. He began his career in comics in the Franco-Belgian scene, where he initially did some work for the magazine 'Spirou.' His breakthrough came when he started collaborating with writer Greg (Michel Regnier) on the series 'Bernard Prince,' which was first published in 'Tintin' magazine in 1966. The success of this series established Hermann's reputation.

After the success of 'Bernard Prince,' Hermann and Greg created the western comic 'Comanche,' which is considered one of his finest works. The series showcased Hermann's skill in rendering the landscapes and environments of the American West. In the late 1970s, Hermann began to write and illustrate his own stories, leading to the creation of 'Jeremiah,' which would become his most enduring series. 'Jeremiah' is set in a world devastated by nuclear war and follows the adventures of Jeremiah and his companion Kurdy Malloy as they navigate through the wastelands.

In addition to 'Jeremiah,' Hermann has worked on many other projects, including 'Les Tours de Bois-Maury,' a historical series set in the Middle Ages. His work has been marked by a strong sense of storytelling, character development, and a willingness to tackle a variety of genres and themes.

Hermann's contributions to the comic art world have been recognized with several awards, including the Grand Prix de la ville d'Angoulême in 2016, which is one of the most prestigious honors in the comic book industry. Despite his age, Hermann continues to be active in the industry, with his artistry evolving over time while maintaining the high standard he has set for himself throughout his career.
