Claude-Émile Schuffenecker (1851–1934) was a French Post-Impressionist painter, art teacher, and collector, known for his close association with prominent artists such as Paul Gauguin and Vincent van Gogh. Born in Fresne-Saint-Mamès, Haute-Saône, Schuffenecker moved to Paris with his family in 1863. He initially worked as a clerk while attending evening classes at the École des Arts Décoratifs. His early artistic endeavors were influenced by the Barbizon School, and he later studied under Carolus-Duran.

Schuffenecker's career took a significant turn when he met Paul Gauguin in 1872 while working at the stockbroker's firm Bertin. The two became lifelong friends, and Schuffenecker introduced Gauguin to the Impressionist circle. Despite his own artistic ambitions, Schuffenecker continued to work as a stockbroker until the financial crisis of 1882, which allowed him to focus more on his art and teaching.

As an artist, Schuffenecker's work is characterized by its use of vibrant colors and bold brushstrokes, reflecting the influence of both Impressionism and the emerging Post-Impressionist movement. His subjects often included landscapes, still lifes, and portraits.
