Enrico Astori Paintings

Enrico Astori was an Italian entrepreneur and art patron, known for his significant contributions to the world of design rather than as an artist himself. Born in 1942 in Cappella Maggiore, Treviso, Italy, he wasn't a creator of art objects but rather a facilitator of art and design through his role as the founder of Driade, an Italian furniture company that became synonymous with contemporary design and avant-garde aesthetics.

Astori founded Driade in 1968 alongside his sister Antonia Astori and Adelaide Acerbi. The company was established with the vision of creating a workshop-like environment that would allow designers and artists freedom to experiment and produce innovative designs. Enrico's background in economics, combined with his passion for art and design, enabled him to create a business model that supported creativity while ensuring commercial viability.

Under his guidance, Driade collaborated with numerous designers and architects, including Philippe Starck, Patricia Urquiola, and Ron Arad, among others. These collaborations resulted in iconic pieces of furniture and home accessories that have been celebrated for their inventive and often provocative designs. Astori's success lay in his ability to bridge the gap between artistic vision and market reality, making design accessible to a broader audience.

Astori was not only a businessman but also an advocate for culture and the arts. He believed in the power of design to enhance everyday life and sought to push the boundaries of what was considered possible in furniture design. His contributions to the field were recognized with several awards and accolades throughout his career.

Enrico Astori passed away in 2021, leaving behind a legacy that has had a lasting impact on the design world. His vision for Driade as a platform for creative expression continues to inspire designers and artists who strive to blend form and function in innovative ways.
