He studied at the Janis Rozentāls Riga Art High School from 1952 to 1956 and later at the Art Academy of Latvia, where he graduated from the Department of Graphic Art in 1962. Lauva was a prominent figure in the Latvian art scene, particularly known for his contributions to graphic art and painting during the Soviet era and post-independence Latvia.
