Neville Henry P. Cayley Paintings

Neville Henry Peniston Cayley was an Australian naturalist and artist known for his detailed and colorful paintings of Australian birdlife. Born in the United Kingdom on December 7, 1853, Cayley migrated to Australia in the early 1880s, where he developed a passion for the country's unique avifauna.

Cayley's interest in birds and art began at a young age. He was influenced by his father, Neville Cayley Senior, who was also a talented artist of birds. Neville Henry P. Cayley's work was characterized by his meticulous approach to illustrating birds in their natural habitats, showcasing not only their appearance but also their behaviors and environments.

Throughout his career, Cayley struggled with financial difficulties but remained dedicated to his art. He worked on various commissions and produced a number of lithographs and illustrations for books, magazines, and scientific works. Although he did not live to see this project to fruition, his son, Neville William Cayley, would later complete and publish this work, titled 'What Bird is That?'
