Per Wickenberg was a Swedish painter primarily known for his landscape art. Born on September 5, 1812, in Malmö, Sweden, Wickenberg demonstrated artistic talent early in his life. He initially studied at the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts in Stockholm, where he honed his skills and became significantly influenced by the romantic national landscape painting that was popular at the time.

In his early career, Wickenberg was influenced by the works of his contemporaries and predecessors within the Swedish art scene.
