Peter Johann Raadsig was a Danish painter, born on June 18, 1806, in Copenhagen, Denmark. He was primarily known for his landscapes and historical paintings. Raadsig was the son of a naval officer and showed an early interest in art. Encouraged by his family, he began his formal art education at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts at the young age of 14 and studied there from 1820 to 1826.
During his time at the academy, he was heavily influenced by the Danish Golden Age, a period of exceptional creative production in Denmark during the early to mid-19th century, and by artists such as Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg.
