William James Boddy Paintings

William James 'Bill' Boddy MBE was not a traditional artist in the sense of a painter or sculptor, but he was a significant figure in the world of automotive journalism, which can be considered an art form in its own right. Born in 1908, Bill Boddy was a British journalist and author who became one of the most respected and influential writers in the field of motor racing history.

Boddy's interest in cars and motoring began at a young age, and his passion eventually led to a career in writing. He is best known for his long association with the magazine 'Motor Sport', where he started contributing articles in the 1930s. During World War II, 'Motor Sport' was one of the few publications that continued to be issued, and Boddy became its editor in 1936, a position he held for an astonishing 55 years until he retired in 1991.

Throughout his career, Boddy was known for his detailed and knowledgeable articles, books, and race reports. He had a particular interest in the history of motor racing and the cars and drivers of the pre-war era. His work did much to preserve the history and stories of early motor racing, and he was widely respected for his encyclopedic knowledge and his contributions to the field.
