Andrew Lloyd Webber, born on March 22, 1948, in London, England, is a preeminent composer and impresario of musical theater. Hailing from a musical family, with his father, William Lloyd Webber, being a composer and organist, his mother, Jean Hermione Johnstone, a violinist and pianist, and his younger brother, Julian Lloyd Webber, a renowned cellist, Andrew was immersed in music from a young age.

He showed early musical promise, composing his first suite of six pieces at the age of nine. Lloyd Webber studied at the Royal College of Music, but he was more interested in musical theatre than in the classical compositions his family favored.

Lloyd Webber's career as a composer took off with the success of 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat' (1968), created in collaboration with lyricist Tim Rice. This was soon followed by 'Jesus Christ Superstar' (1970), which became a global phenomenon. The duo's success continued with 'Evita' (1976), a musical based on the life of Argentine political leader Eva Perón.

After parting ways with Rice, Lloyd Webber continued to produce a series of successful musicals including 'Cats' (1981), which is based on T.S. Eliot's poems and features the song 'Memory', one of his most famous compositions. His subsequent works, such as 'The Phantom of the Opera' (1986), have also enjoyed long-running success and have solidified Lloyd Webber's reputation as a titan in the musical theatre industry.

Lloyd Webber has been honored with numerous awards, including multiple Tonys, Grammys, and an Academy Award for Best Original Song for 'You Must Love Me' from the film adaptation of 'Evita'. He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1992 for his services to the arts and was made a life peer in 1997, giving him the title Lord Lloyd-Webber.

Despite being diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2009, he has continued his work in theatre, and his contributions to music and the arts remain highly celebrated. Lloyd Webber's influence extends beyond the stage as he supports various charitable causes and has established the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation, which promotes the arts, culture, and heritage for the public benefit.
