Germán Álvarez Algeciras was a notable Spanish painter born on April 8, 1848, in Algeciras, Spain. He was known for his genre paintings, historical scenes, and orientalist themes. Algeciras studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid, where he was influenced by the works of the Spanish Romantic painters.

During his early career, Algeciras spent significant time traveling, which greatly influenced his artistic style. He lived in Rome for a while, where he was exposed to the Italian masters, and also traveled to Paris, a hub for artists in the 19th century.
