Illarion Mikhailovich Prianishnikov, also spelled Illarion Michajlowicz Prianisznikow, was a prominent Russian painter associated with the Peredvizhniki (Wanderers or Itinerants) movement, which sought to break away from the strictures of academic art and bring art closer to the everyday life of the Russian people.

Prianishnikov was born on March 19, 1840, in the city of Kursk, Russia, into a family with a strong interest in art and culture. His initial education in art began at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, where he was influenced by the teachings of social realism. He continued his education at the Imperial Academy of Arts in Saint Petersburg, where he won several awards for his work.

Throughout his career, Prianishnikov was deeply committed to depicting scenes of Russian history and the daily lives of its people, often focusing on the peasantry. He became a member of the Peredvizhniki movement, which was formed in 1870 by a group of students who rebelled against the academic restrictions of the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. The Peredvizhniki organized traveling art exhibitions throughout Russia, aiming to engage with a wider audience and explore themes of social justice and reform.

One of Prianishnikov's most famous works is 'Jokers. Gostiny Dvor in Moscow' (1872), which vividly portrays the bustling atmosphere of Moscow's main marketplace. His work was characterized by careful attention to detail, vibrant colors, and an ability to capture the spirit of the Russian people.

Sadly, Prianishnikov's life was cut short. He died on July 14, 1894, in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, where he had been working on a large-scale painting. His contributions to Russian art were significant, and his paintings remain a testament to the era of change and the cultural milieu he was a part of. Prianishnikov's legacy is preserved in his works which are displayed in prominent Russian museums, including the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow and the Russian Museum in St. Petersburg.
