He is known for his animal paintings, sporting scenes, and his influence on the famed artist Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. Princeteau was born into an aristocratic family and was deaf from birth, which led him to develop a strong visual sensitivity and a deep connection to the visual arts from an early age.

Princeteau studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he was a student of the renowned animal painter Jean-Léon Gérôme. Despite his deafness, Princeteau navigated the Parisian art world with determination, becoming known for his equestrian and hunting scenes, which were highly regarded for their dynamism and detailed rendering of animals in motion.
