William Daniels Paintings

William Daniels is a contemporary British artist known for his meticulously crafted paintings and works on paper. Born in 1976 in Brighton, England, Daniels has established himself within the art world for his unique approach to recreating historical works of art using everyday materials such as aluminum foil, wrapping paper, and cardboard to construct models of famous paintings, which he then painstakingly paints.

Daniels' educational background in art began with his studies at the Hastings College of Art and Technology followed by his graduation from the Royal College of Art in London, where he received his MA in 2003. His work can be seen as a dialogue with the history of art, where he explores themes of authenticity, reproduction, and the value of art.

He gained recognition for his series of foil paintings that recreate the works of Old Masters, which not only showcase his technical skill but also probe the relationships between the original and the copy, the high and low culture, and the transient versus the timeless. Daniels' art is often described as a form of trompe-l'oeil, as the foil models he creates are transformed into seemingly three-dimensional paintings that challenge the viewer's perception.

Throughout his career, William Daniels has exhibited his work in numerous solo and group exhibitions internationally, and his works are part of public and private collections.
